Background

They focus on high-end luxury vehicles. They are an international luxury car dealership with several locations in the UK.

The search volume they are trying to target is on the lower end, but the terms they are targeting are quite profitable.

In addition to improving their ranking for a few key pages, their goal was to get traffic back.

Our method was as follows:

 

First Things First – The SEO Audit

When we work with new sites, we always evaluate their SEO history first.

Google’s Core Algorithm Update in May took a significant toll on this client’s rankings.

Due to a thin and duplicate page structure with scant to no content and a high bounce rate, this site’s rankings were not as good.

A site that has just an inventory page is likely to face this problem. It also means there’s a huge opportunity to win back traffic!

We had actually begun providing link-building services ala carte, at which point they saw some return traffic, then switched to our managed SEO program after that.

 

Focusing On Improving Existing Pages Rankings & Traffic With Easy Wins

Our first priority is to improve the number of people who see existing pages.

It’s quite common for many sites to be close to ranking and getting traffic, but they’re not quite there yet.

Using the following metrics, we identify keywords ranking for the site through our easy wins analysis.

  • Positions 4-30 with
  • KD equal to or less than 30
  • Minimum CPC .01

By doing so, we can identify profitable keywords and pages that are nearly ranking and can easily be improved.

This site contained 460 potential targets, with a CPC range of $0.30 – $2.50 on this site.

Essentially, these terms were product pages pointing to specific vehicles that are for sale. Because the keywords are easy to rank, we can improve traffic quickly.

 

Competitive Gap Analysis

Next, we look at what keywords your competition is targeting that you are not, and build content for these opportunities.

In terms of the content gap analysis, the automotive field is a bit different.

A competitive gap analysis may reveal keywords that are not relevant and may not be worth trying to target (such as – specific car models or geo-targeted keywords).

Despite the fact that most of the top competitors in this niche are thin on content, we were able to target the quick wins and create long blog posts around them.

Every month we leveraged a combination of quality content and link building.

After targeting this site’s easy win key terms, we’ve bumped many of them to page 1. The top 10 keywords are currently all ranking on page 1:
